Candy Makeover Challenge with 5th Graders from Chavez Elementary

Candy Makeover Challenge With 5th Graders From Chavez Elementary

Our third annual Halloween Candy Bounce Back event as part of our Healthy Smiles Campaign brought in tons of candy to Madison Family Dental, and we didn’t eat it.

We really don’t want anyone to eat the candy that will lead to tooth decay. Instead, we’re on year two of our Candy Makeover Challenge, a program that gives students the opportunity to turn all these sugary treats into beautiful works of art.

Now it’s your turn to vote for your favorite artwork from the hundreds of 5th grade students at Chavez Elementary School via our Facebook page and Twitter, and the winning class will be rewarded with passes to Vitense Golfland. In addition, the winning school will receive a $200 gift card for art supplies.

How the Candy Makeover Challenge Works at Chavez Elementary

Students combine into teams and are asked to create works of art (sculptures, paintings, etc.) that use the trade-in candy as the primary art material that expresses what it means to them to have a Healthy and Lasting Smile.

Students can recycle any previously used art materials and any other supplies already on hand. The teams title their final art pieces that are then photographed and shared on Facebook and Twitter where we will encourage friends, family, and the community to vote on their favorite masterpiece.

The winning school will receive a $200 gift card for art supplies from Wisconsin Craft Market. The winning class will receive passes to Vitense Golfland.

A special thank you to Chavez Elementary’s Art Teacher, Charlotte Cummings who helped her students hone in their inner-candy creativity!
