Madison Family Dental Gives Back

Madison Family Dental Gives Back

For the last 35 years, we’ve been bringing healthy smiles and outreach to our local community.   Our business is driven by strong values, one being to invest in the communities in which we work, serve, and play.

Outside the office, you can find Madison Family Dental educating, volunteering, and giving back to the community through multiple innovative community outreach programs and philanthropic giving.

“Madison and DeForest are great communities. Madison Family Dental works really hard to improve the lives of its residents.   We want to be strong community partners.” – Dr. Lori Veerman.

Madison Family Dental gives to programs that help provide basic needs, focus on health and wellness, and enrich the lives of families, individuals, and communities.

Through these time and monetary investments, we develop and strengthen our community and its overall health. Simply stated we enjoy helping people, and here is how we accomplish this…

mfd bike for boys and girls club teamThe Boys & Girls Club of Dane County’s mission is to be leaders in youth development programs by building partnerships that produce positive outcomes for young people, families, and the community as a whole. With generous support from volunteers and donors, and through partnerships with Madison businesses, foundations, and community programs, BGCDC is able to influence the lives of nearly 5,000 young people.

Since 2011, Madison Family Dental has raised close to $20,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County through their Bike4BGC Bike Team. This year alone, we’ve raised over $6,000!

Candy Art by Mark Rodriguez

Candy Art by Mark Rodriguez

Madison Family Dental was the first in town to create a unique “Candy Bounceback” program after Halloween, which gives kids the opportunity to trade-in unopened candy for a Madison Family Dental prize pack, which has included certificates to fun and healthy activities in the Madison area.

The candy that is collected then gets a “make-over,” and is transformed by local children in the Madison Metropolitan School District to create a one-of-kind artwork that is voted-on via social media. The winning class’s teacher wins $200 to purchase art supplies for their classroom, and all the kids in the winning and participating classes receive a special Madison Family Dental prize pack with healthy treats, dental goodies, and certificates for healthy activities in the community.

We’re heading into our 4th year of this program and still going strong. Keep your eyes peeled for more information on how you can get involved this year! We can’t wait to see what creative artwork the kids come up with!

dentists with teen from work learn programHigh school can be a very difficult time for teens. Some may pass through it with ease, but for others, it can become almost unbearable without the right type of guidance. These students are at risk for not graduating, which is where the Work and Learn program comes in. This unique program offers four semesters of unique experiences not only academically, but in the surrounding community for students that need that extra help to get to a diploma.

Madison Family Dental participated in the program in 2015 with Joey. The Madison Family Dental team mentored Joey throughout the year with a dental hygiene job, life coaching, and decision-making skills. Joey’s hard work and dedication in the program and at Madison Family Dental paid off. He not only graduated but gave a speech at his graduation ceremony. We couldn’t be more proud of him!

While the above programs are our largest commitments to the community, we also participate in several others such as:

Originally the Salvation Army Thursday Night Dental Clinic, Madison Dental Initiative was founded in May 2009. MDI’s mission is to meet the oral health needs of the area homeless population. Since its opening, the clinic has provided emergency and preventative care for thousands of people in need in the Madison area.

Madison Family Dental has been a sponsor of the program since 2014. In 2015, a total of $25,000 in care was provided by Dr. Heim and Dr. Veerman. Both Doctors volunteer on a monthly, ongoing basis.

The Executive Women’s Golf Association hosts an annual golf outing that benefits a wide range of charities. The 2016 golf outing benefits Access Community Health Center, which provides primary medical, behavioral, dental, and pharmacy services in five locations in Dane and Iowa counties. Annually, Access provides care to over 26,000 patients, the majority of whom live in poverty.

All proceeds from this year’s golf outing will support Access’ school-based “Celebrate Smiles” program, which gives 2,600 elementary school students preventative and restorative dental care right in their school. Children that participate in Celebrate Smiles are then able to become patients of Access and receive ongoing care at any of its clinics.

Madison Family Dental is a proud sponsor of the 2016 EWGA Golf Outing.

WDA Mission of Mercy focuses on providing free, critical dental care with a high priority on treating patients in pain and with infections.  WDA Mission of Mercy also raises public awareness of the barriers to dental care faced by low-income adults and children by challenging patients, policymakers, and dental professionals to work together to make viable and bipartisan “Healthy Choices” that will improve Wisconsin residents’ oral health.

Madison Family Dental staff provided care at the Madison event (2012), Lake Geneva (2013), and Green Bay (2014).

Dr. Ron Schmidt, the co-founder of Madison Family Dental and his daughter, Dr. Lori Veerman, are both avid photographers. Together they photograph their adventures from around the world, custom-frame the original photographs, and sell them. All proceeds from the sale of the custom-framed photography directly benefit the local Madison community non-profits through ongoing support programs from Madison Family Dental.
