Who Is Dr. Andrew Carmosino
Dr. Andrew Carmosino is Madison Family Dental’s Periodontist (a dentist that specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease… a.k.a. gum disease). Dr. Carmosino joins us from Manus Dental in the Chicago area, where he practiced periodontics, UIC College of Dentistry where he worked as a Clinical Associate Professor, and Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he’s been on the attending staff for the General Practice Residency. We recently asked Dr. Carmosino to tell us more about himself and what he does when not practicing dentistry.
A Little About Dr. Carmosino
Dr. Carmosino grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania and attended SUNY Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. While there, he served as Class President for all four years and ASDA Legislative Liaison for one year. During his time at SUNY Buffalo, Andy was the recipient of numerous awards for his academic performance and leadership skills. He graduated cum laude with his DDS in 2009.
In July 2009, Andy moved to Boston for a GPR program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard School of Medicine. Following the GPR program, Andy returned to Erie to practice as a general dentist for two years. In 2012 Andy began his three-year postgraduate periodontics program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Highlights of Andy’s third year included serving as Chief Resident and publishing an article in the February 2015 issue of the Journal of Periodontology. He has been trained in all phases of modern periodontology including both surgical and nonsurgical periodontics and dental implant therapy.
In His Free Time
Dr. Carmosino is married to his wife, Seema. In his free time, Dr. Carmosino enjoys running, hiking, cooking, and taking in sporting events.
In Dr. Carmosino’s own words, he says: “The sense of community in Madison, and specifically at Madison Family Dental, is what drew me to this position. Prior to specializing, I practiced as a general dentist at an office that is very similar to MFDA in Erie. I have seen firsthand that excellent communication, not only within our clinic but also with referring dentists, and a team approach greatly benefits the patient. As a periodontal specialist, my primary goal is to help educate patients on their periodontal condition and give them the tools that can lead to optimum health. Patients come to us with varying degrees of periodontal disease and many different circumstances that may be contributing to the problem. I strive to individualize treatment for each and every patient. My general practice philosophy revolves around preservation of the natural teeth, but providing excellent implant therapy when indicated. The periodontal and implant therapy I provide focuses on obtaining results that are not only esthetic, but also maintainable long-term. I try to use the most current high quality scientific evidence available from respected journals and meetings to help guide my clinical recommendations. Active patient participation in their health is welcome and critical to success!”
