Who is Dr. Christine Julian-Hoernke?
Although she’s a Middleton native, Dr. Christine Julian-Hoernke studied at Arizona State University to get her B.S. in psychology and then moved on to University of Iowa for dental school, where she graduated in 2005. Ever since then, she’s been working at Madison Family Dental, which she loves because of their “family approach.” Ever since she started working as a dental assistant, after she earned her undergraduate degree, she has thoroughly enjoyed being able to take care of people and help solve their problems. Part of the reason she was interested in dentistry was her own childhood dentist, Dr. Merrel D. Nelson, who her mom would drive her to Minnesota to see. He always made her experiences great, and his approach reminds her that although the dentists’ office isn’t always the patient’s favorite place to be, she can do everything in her power to make it the best experience possible!
A Little About Dr. Christine Julian-Hoernke
“After going away to school, I realized I wanted to live close to family, so the Madison area was the place I wanted to settle down and call home. My husband Nick and I have three kids, Noah (8), Grace (5) and Emma (2). Adding onto our family is Lola the labradoodle, who is 9-years-old, but is still crazy for Frisbee!
I also love being involved in my kids’ activities, which includes school, of course, swim, dance, karate, gymnastics, baseball and tennis. The farmer’s markets are a big source of family fun for us as well. I enjoy gardening, too, but I’m not very good at it! We usually do vegetables, and last year I tried my hand at a cut flower garden for the first time – I’m looking forward to adding to it next year! In the fall, we love going to pumpkin patches and apple orchards.
Our family has recently been affected by Type I Diabetes, so now we spend a lot of time learning about the disease and how to get through the challenges that come with it. We are very lucky to have such an awesome children’s hospital in the Madison area and are so very grateful for all the wonderful doctors, nurses and educators available to us.”
In Her Free Time
“In what little free time I have, my family and I love to be active together and spend time biking, running, swimming, playing games and participating in spontaneous dance parties in our living room as well as enjoying the Wisconsin winters! The kids have recently learning to ski and snowboard, and this year we will be going snow shoeing as a family if the snow ever returns! I also like to read, spend time with family and friends and be creative.”

This year I would love to get involved with the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.”
