How to Deal with Sensitive Teeth During the Summer

Posted on 2/6/2023 by Evan
How to Deal with Sensitive Teeth During the SummerTooth sensitivity can be quite uncomfortable, especially when drinking cold beverages. In the summer, the hot sunny days will need cold drinks to quench your thirst. However, with sensitive teeth, it can be a challenge to enjoy your favorite summer drinks and snacks. Therefore, you need to know various ways you can deal with sensitive teeth during that period. Luckily, there are ways you can reduce the discomfort of tooth sensitivity.

Use a Straw

There is a wide range of drinks at your disposal during summer, but tooth sensitivity can limit your intake. To reduce sensitivity, you should use straws when enjoying your favorite summer drinks. Straws direct the drink to the back of your mouth, reducing contact with the sensitive area. As a result, there will be less discomfort. Apart from reducing sensitivity, straws will also prevent discoloration. This is very crucial in keeping your teeth white and healthy.

Avoid Fizzy Drinks

With the hot sunny day of summer, it can be refreshing to enjoy cold drinks. However, acidic foods, fizzy drinks, and smoking can cause damage to your enamel and worsen sensitivity. Acidic drinks can cause tooth erosion, wearing down the enamel. With a damaged enamel, the dentin beneath is exposed. As a result, you will experience sensitivity. Therefore it is a good idea to reduce the consumption of such items. If you have to use them, always use a straw for minimum damage.

Upgrade Your Brush

As much as brushing your teeth is good for your oral health, aggressive and overzealous brushing can cause tooth sensitivity. Therefore, you should get a soft-bristled toothbrush that will not damage your teeth. Furthermore, you should brush your teeth gently for around two minutes for the best results.
