Removable Dentures

Posted on 7/10/2023 by Evan
Removable DenturesDentures are false teeth made from acrylic, nylon, or metallic materials that fit over the gum and teeth, giving a person the impression of having natural teeth. Dentures aid in chewing food and communication. However, they do not offer effective services like natural teeth. There exist two types of removable dentures: complete and partial.

Complete Dentures

These removable dentures are fitted when a patient has a complete set of missing teeth. Complete dentures are classified as either immediate or conventional. A conventional denture is placed in the mouth once the gum tissue heals, often about three months from when the teeth got removed. On the other hand, immediate dentures, as their name claims, are placed once the teeth are removed as soon as possible. Therefore, the patient does not stay without teeth while healing. Immediate dentures have major shortcomings in requiring more adjustments to fit properly during the healing process than conventional dentures.

Partial Denture

When one has a remaining set of teeth in the upper or lower jaw, a removable bridge consisting of teeth attached to a gum-colored plastic base is placed onto the mouth. The partial dentures prevent the remaining teeth from moving away from their natural position by filling in the left space.

How Dentures are Fitted

At our offices, we believe in patients' health and service satisfaction. Our dentist consulted with the patient on whether to fit in full or partial dentures. In the case of full dentures, the remaining teeth are first removed then dentures are fitted. Depending on the patient's desired customized dentures, the dentist takes impressions and measurements and sends them to a clinical dental technician.

Where the patient requires partial dentures, the number of missing teeth determines the number of false teeth made to fill the gap. Partial dentures have removable metallic clips that enable effective clipping onto adjacent teeth and ease unclipping when removed. Call us to schedule a consultation with our experienced dentists for denture placement procedures.
