Get Rid of Cavities

Posted on 3/21/2022 by Evan
Get Rid of CavitiesCavities are microscopic holes in the hard surface of teeth. Their cause is bacteria that produce acid on the teeth' surface. In most cases, the bacterium Streptococcus mutans is to blame. Plaque is an organic film formed by microorganisms. Plaque acids dissolve calcium and phosphate minerals from your enamel. As a result, your enamel is eroded. If acid damage penetrates beneath the enamel, a cavity forms.

Getting Rid of Cavities At Home

Researchers have demonstrated that after meals, chewing sugar-free gum can aid in remineralizing enamel. Gum that contains Xylitol has been thoroughly studied for its ability to promote saliva flow and raise plaque pH. Vitamin D aids the absorption of phosphate and calcium from food. Vitamin D is found in dairy products, such as yogurt and milk. Vitamin D is also found in the sun. Fluoride prevents cavities and remineralizes enamel.

Seeing a Dentist

The onset of many dental disorders, including deep cavities, is unaccompanied by any pain or other symptoms. It is critical to visit the dentist regularly in order to detect a cavity before it worsens. When a cavity is detected early, it can be treated more effectively. Dentists offer a variety of cavity treatment options, including fluoride treatments, fillings, crowns, root canals, and tooth extractions. Vitamin D, oil pulling, licorice lollipops, and chewing gum are not effective in eliminating existing cavities. The benefit of these methods is that they may prevent cavities from getting larger and may also prevent new ones from forming. In the best-case scenario, they can help remineralize softened or weakened areas of your teeth before cavities occur. Remember, the earlier you discover a cavity, the easier it will be to restore it, so be sure to visit your dentist regularly.
