Reducing Stress Before Surgery

We have come to expect many of our patients to feel a bit anxious and nervous when they have to undergo dental surgery at the office. It is normal for you to feel nervous about your dental surgery but that should hinder you from receiving optimal dental care and treatment. There are several things that can help you feel calmer as you come for your dental surgery. During the consultation phase, it is vital that you tell our dentists about previous medications that you might be using to avoid any complications that may arise.

Prepare Before You Come to the Office

It helps when your mind is at ease as you come to the clinic. Come with a friend or relative who will be your designated driver after you leave the clinic. The friend or relative will also be a reassuring presence. With many years in practice, we have observed that having a friend or loved one helps people to feel relaxed at the office. Also, ensure that you have cleared your schedule for the following few days after the surgery day to ensure that you can have ample time to recover.

Nitrous Oxide Solution

In our practice, we use nitrous oxide (laughing gas) even before we sedate you with IV sedatives. This makes you relaxed, removing any doubts or stress that you might be having. You will be relaxed knowing that you will not feel discomfort during the procedure, and you will not remember what was happening during the surgery. This helps many patients come back for future visits.
